The Transmission & Distribution sub-sectors of the electricity value chain in the NESI are the most dynamic and exciting electrical systems in the world, operating in a complex electricity market occasioned by the implementation of the Electricity Act 2023 (as amended). The electricity market in the NESI is undergoing a rapid expansion due to the introduction of battery storage, wind, solar PV and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The T&D sector covers a wide range of voltage levels and operations; from 330/132/33kV or 132/33kV transmission substations, through to 33/11kV injection substations, Eligible Customers (ECs), Captive Power, and Independent Electricity Distribution Network (IEDN) networks. Transmission & Distribution infrastructure owners are faced by a constant pressure of new connections, increasing demand, power quality, grid reliability, and a need to reduce CAPEX and OPEX, whilst ensuring that all NERC approved performance improvements plans (PIP) are implemented to budget, to time, and to quality.

iPEC offers a wide range of studies and services across the T&D sub-sectors direct to distribution companies (DisCos), Independent Distribution Network Owners (IDNOs), ECs, and private network operators covering network planning, protection settings calculations, power system analysis and detailed design and construction activities. Typical services we offer can include:

  • Independent review of grid connection studies
  • Load flow and Reactive Power Flow studies.
  • Fault level studies
  • Network planning and reinforcement studies.
  • Outage condition planning
  • Earthing Studies
  • Insulation coordination studies
  • Pilot projects – Deployment of new and emerging technologies.
  • Reliability & Availability studies
  • Protection Scheme Design
  • CT & VT Sizing Calculations
  • Cable Sizing Calculations
